Mountain Pose

Mountain Pose

Mountain Pose, also known as Tadasana, is an important foundation for other standing poses, but can also be practiced on its own. Stand upright and raise your arms over your head, with your palms facing each other. Keeping your limbs straight, inhale, and envision your arms lifted to the sky. Exhale and bring your arms to your side, before repeating.

Downward-Facing Dog

Downward facing dog is one of the most recognised and beloved beginner’s poses. Start by getting onto the floor on your hands and knees. Next, tuck your toes and lift your hips up. Your body should form a triangle-like shape, with your head below your heart. Allow gravity to assist your movement in lengthening and releasing the back body. Move the feet slightly wider if you feel more stable.

Warrior I

Warrior I

Warrior I or Virabhadrasana I, is a great pose for strengthening your legs and building balance. Start by standing with your feet slightly wider than hip-width apart. Turn your right foot outwards, so that your toes face the corner of the room, and keep your left foot facing forwards. Now, bring both of your arms in line with your legs, and place your palms together. Rotate your torso towards the right, and reach your right arm towards the sky. At the same time, bend your left knee and move your head as far towards your right elbow as you can comfortably reach. For an extra challenge, raise both arms vertically upwards, towards the sky.

Tree Pose

Tree Pose

Tree Pose is an advanced pose for beginners, as it requires a lot of concentration, ensuring that you can trust your balance and maintain mindfulness. Stand with your feet hip-width apart and shift your weight to your left foot. Bend your knee and bring your right foot to the inside of your left thigh. Make sure your foot is slightly above or below your knee. Once you feel balanced, bring your palms together and extend both arms above your head.

Cobra Pose

Cobra Pose

The Cobra Pose, also known as Bhujangasana, is great for stretching the front torso and toning the abdominal organs. Start by lying face-down on the floor. Place your hands underneath your shoulders, and position your legs hip-width apart. Inhale and press your palms onto the floor, then slowly lift your head and chest off the floor. Make sure to keep your head in line with your shoulders. Hold the post for 10 breaths, making sure to focus on lengthening your spine on the inhalation and releasing it on the exhalation.
