Do you want to learn the art of Yoga, but are too intimidated by videos or classes? Why not give Yoga drawing a try? Drawing Yoga poses is a great way to learn how to engage different parts of your body while stretching and bending. With practice, soon you can become a master at this skill. In this article, we will walk you through a step-by-step guide on how to draw Yoga poses.
Front Right Bend to One Legged Downward Dog
Start in a standing position with your feet at least hip-width apart. Bend your right leg, crossing your right thigh to your left knee. Place both hands on the ground, ensuring that your shoulders remain over your wrists. Raise your left leg up, in a One-Legged Downward Dog position. Straighten your left leg and relax your shoulders.
One Legged Seated Forward Bend
From the previous pose, slightly raise your right arm, placing it in the crease of your right leg. Gently move forward, bringing your right shoulder onto the ground. Then, draw your right leg towards your chest, while also extending your left leg. Breath in and out, while pushing your chest towards your thigh.
Bridge Pose to Reclining Big Toe Pose
Lie on your back, knees pointing towards the ceiling. Gently press your feet onto the mat and draw your hips up, forming a bridge. Ensure that you maintain the natural curve in your lower back. Push your nails into the mat, to keep your arms engaged. Slowly, separate your legs wider and reach between your legs to wrap your hands around your feet in a Reclining Big Toe Pose. Remain still for a few moments and then slowly come back to the initial pose.
One Legged Windshield Wiper to King Pigeon
Start on your hands and knees. Extend your right leg up, keeping your knee and foot in line with each other. Gently swivel your right leg outward to the right, until you feel a stretch across your right hip and side. Hold the position while taking a few deep breaths. Then, move your right foot towards the mat and raise your left arm up, into the King Pigeon pose. Maintain the forward bend, with the right side of the chest facing the mat.
King Pigeon to Half Moon Pose
From the previous pose, move your left arm to the side and rotate your torso away from the mat, pushing your forearms and palms into the ground. Lift your left leg up and bring it parallel to the ground. Maintain a soft bend in the left knee and extend the left leg all the way around to the right, coming into a Half Moon Pose. Engage your core and glutes, while you gently press your foot and left hand into the ground.
Drawing Yoga poses encourages you to understand the movements of your muscles and bones. It encourages creative expression and also helps you to stay focused and committed to your practice. Even if you are a beginner, you can master the art of Yoga drawing and will soon become a pro.
