Yoga Poses Before Sleep

We all know how good sleep is for our health, and how difficult that can be. Getting a good night’s sleep can be impossible as our minds work overtime and all sorts of pains rear their ugly heads. Of course, yoga can be a great way to help you find inner peace, reduce stress and improve sleep quality. Here are some yoga poses that will help you drift off into a great sleep.

Reclining Goddess Pose

This is probably one of the most relaxing poses you can do. Sit up on your mat and bend your legs out at the sides, keeping your thighs in contact with each other and the floor. Take your torso back, so that your eyes are directed towards the ceiling, ensuring your upper back is flat.

Embryo Pose

This pose is very calming and is a simple yet great one to help promote sleep. To get into the position, lie on your back and pull your knees towards your chest as far as you can. Wrap your arms around your legs and rock side to side.

Child’s Pose

This is a great pose to delve deeper into relaxation. Start on all fours, with your hips over your knees and your knees under your hips, before sitting your hips back towards your heels. Allow your head to drop towards the floor and take your arms long, ahead of you.

Legs Up the Wall Pose

This is another classic yoga pose that can help to put you in a deep sleep. All you have to do is sit with your hip close to a wall, before slowly lying down and bringing your legs up the wall. Keep your arms resting by your sides, palms facing up.

Reclined Bound Angle Pose

One of the most enjoyable poses before bed, this pose is great for letting your body sink into deep relaxation. Begin by sitting up and bringing the soles of your feet together in front of you. Slowly, gently lean back on your forearms, before kindly letting your body just relax. Let your back, neck, and head gently land on the mat for a few moments, taking deep breaths and feeling the pose really sink in.

These are just a few of the many yoga poses that can help you to relax and get a better night’s sleep. Remember, every yoga practice should be tailored specifically to you, so find the ones that work best for you and your lifestyle.
