Cat Poses Yoga

Yoga is one of the best ways to relax your body and mind, reduce stress and find balance in life. Whether you are a beginner or more advanced yogi, these ten poses will rejuvenate and energize you.

Child’s Pose

Child’s pose is a wonderful way to de-stress, focus your breath and let the cares of the world melt away. To get into child’s pose, kneel on the floor, spread your knees hip width apart, and then tuck your toes. Reach your arms forward and drop your forehead to the floor. Actively press your chest towards the ground. Deepen your breath and stay in this pose for two to three minutes release.

Easy Pose

The Easy Pose is a seated, meditative position that helps you cultivate clarity and presence, while soothing tired muscles. To get into Easy Pose, sit on the floor with your legs crossed. Make sure your sit bones are resting squarely on the ground and your torso is upright. If it is comfortable, place your hands on your knees or in your lap with your palms facing up. Close your eyes, lengthen your spine and take deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth. Stay in this pose for two to three minutes.

Downward Dog

Downward Dog is a wonderful pose for stretching the entire body, relieving tension and invigorating the mind. To get into Downward Dog, start on your hands and knees, making sure your wrists are directly underneath your shoulders. Extend your calves, press your hips up and back and keep your knees slightly bent. Push your palms into the floor and reach your chest and arms forward. Make sure your neck lengthens and your head is in line with your spine. Draw your shoulder blades downward, and stay in this pose for two to three minutes.

Seated Cat-Cow Pose

The Seated Cat-Cow Pose is a gentle way to massage your spine and soothe your lower back. To perform this pose, begin sitting up tall with your legs crossed and your palms facing down. Inhale slowly and as you do, arch your spine and tilt your head back. On your exhale, round your spine and tuck your chin in towards your chest. Repeat this motion at least eight times.

Legs up the Wall Pose

The Legs up the Wall Pose is a great restorative posture that eases tired legs and brings relaxation to the entire body. To do this pose, scoot yourself up against the wall. Then, swing your legs up onto the wall so that your lower backis flat against the floor. You may have your legs straight up against the wall or bent at the knee. Close your eyes and relax in this posture for several minutes.
